Hi, I’m Robert C. "Bob" Dempsey. I am a member of the International Fire Photographers Association (IFPA), International Organization of Fire Photography (IOFP), the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). I have been a Photographer for over 30 years. While still in Junior High School in far West Texas, I visited the High School Darkroom with an older friend and I was absolutely amazed as I watched my first latent image emerge in the Developer tray under the amber glow of the safelights. That amazement has never faded and, largely self-taught, I went on to become the Chief Photographer for my High School Yearbook, "The Shorthorn", a Contributing and Staff Photographer for an award-winning weekly newspaper in Marfa, Texas, “The Big Bend Sentinel” and I began operating a small Freelance Photography business while I was a young teenager. My first Freelance business actively continued into my early twenties.
After completing High School, I was accepted to the Art Institute of Houston, which, unaware of student aid, loans and grants at the time, I couldn’t attend due to family financial limitations. My Photography took a necessary back seat to my Firefighting, Paramedic and Naval Careers, and my young family. I never stopped taking photos and being amazed at the beauty, and awed by the contrasting harshness, this world has in it though. I lived abroad for 5 years and traveled extensively while in the Navy. Some of my older work will be showcased and offered in galleries here as I get it scanned from the original film. I am now retired from the Navy, raising another young family and returning to my first love, Photography, full-time. I am currently enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography (NYIP) Complete Course in Professional Photography to hone my skills and fully embrace the new Digital Photography.
I now shoot completely in digital format and I am once again amazed by the new technology which allows me to bring my creative vision to fruition almost instantly. Now classifying myself as a Visual Storyteller in both still and video formats, I am proud to soon begin offering my creative talents, vision and experience to you. I am already building my new portfolio so if you have some ideas you want to work on while I am getting the business up and running legally, I’d love to talk to you about exchanging photo sessions for portfolio display rights.
Together, let’s capture your special moments to be remembered and enjoyed by generations to come.
